Adiss Abeba which is literally means ‘’new flower’’ was founded in 1886 by emperor Menelik II. A large city, which is the highest capital city in Africa and the fifth capital city in the world sitting at an altitude of 2400mts.It hosts east Africa’s largest market, the marcato, a sprawling mass of stalls where one can find just about anything for sale. Churches such as the cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the St George’s cathedral give a great insight into Ethiopia’s patron saint (the famed dragon slayer that also serves as patron saint for England) was built by emperor Menelik to commemorate his victory over Italian forces at Adwa, and houses a small museum holds an interesting selection of artefacts from Ethiopia’s wide and varied history. Its national museum exhibits prehistoric fossils, including replicas of the famous early hominid known as Lucy, along with Ethiopian art and traditional crafts.

Activities

In this full day city tour, we drive to mount Entoto where you will have a panoramic view of Adiss Ababa from an impressive view point. On the way short stop at shiro meda where you will see the active market and you will also attend the textile market there.

National museum:

where you will have the opportunity to see the fossil replicate of Lucy, art gallery and ethnological section.

Ethnological museum:

where you will see a bit of every aspect of the country. The museum displays the cultural things, the religious artefacts, the art gallery and the once bed room of king Hailesilasse with his some items belonging to him.

Holy trinity church:

with a baroque style of European architecture which is unique to both Ethiopia and Africa. The colourful stained glasses and the paintings are very impressive there in.

Attending the Africa’s largest open air market Merkato which will take us 1-2hrs. This is where we will experience the authentic Ethiopia’s market activity and business dealings. This would be really the best experience.
